Yarrows - Baking A Monopoly Yarrows The Bakers in the isolated South Taranaki town of Manaia have been enjoying the benefits of reduced electricity and gas supply costs since 1998.
This is the result of Todd Energy going into bat for Yarrows to cut their energy bills, on both the line and energy components for electricity and gas, and give them a competitive edge. The monopoly supplier put up stiff resistance but Todd Energy won through.
But Yarrows isn’t your typical small town bakery! This is a company which has taken on the Australian and New Zealand baking industry and won. They know the effort required to beat a monopoly!
For Yarrows supplies parts of Australia with frozen dough products direct from its Manaia plant. They have even gone one better and beaten out international competition to become the exclusive supplier of frozen dough in the Asia/Pacific region to the American Subway chain of subs and sandwich bars.
Yarrows know the benefit of investing in new technology and constantly striving to reduce overheads to remain internationally competitive. All this while remaining in the small rural town of Manaia where they started three generations ago.
John Yarrow has been so enthralled with the result to write:
“When Todd Energy started supplying us with cheaper gas and electricity and they did it against the odds. Todd took on the monopoly supplier and won. We have had cheaper power ever since.”
Once again Todd Energy's tenacity and skill, combined with their multi-fuel portfolio has introduced competition and energy cost savings to another internationally successful New Zealand company.
