King Country Energy is the incumbent electricity supplier in the greater King Country and Ruapehu region. Todd Energy is a 35% shareholder in King Country Energy with most of the remaining shares held by local customers.

As the local electricity generation and retail company, King Country Energy works closely with other businesses within the region to ensure that their supply and service closely match the needs of customers. The close working relationship between customers and the King Country Energy account management team is vital to delivering a level of local service that is difficult for national retailers to match.

The King Country Energy retail operation is based in Taumarunui but also includes branch offices and four hydro-generation plants within the King Country region. Todd Energy also is a joint venture partner with King Country Energy in the Mangahao Hydro and mini-hydro generation assets in Horowhenua and is constantly evaluating new options to further increase the generation portfolio.
